Oral Surgery

What is Oral Surgery? What is it that an Oral Surgeon does?  Many people don't have definitions or clear answers for these questions, but this blog is here to simplify things for the lay man and be an educational tool for someone who has been referred to an oral surgeon.

I would also like to open things up for the experts, or professionals who would like to participate in this community with posts, pictures, articles or any input to enrich the site and educate the lay man as well as make this site a resource of information for the educated.

The first topic I will discuss is denal extractions.   If you ever need a tooth extracted from your mouth, you can have your dentist take care of that for you, or you can see the specialist for that.. the oral surgeon.   This is basic bread and butter type stuff for the oral surgeon.  Most exrtactions that are difficult get sent to the oral surgeon, especially wisdom teeth.  Wisdom teeth are your 3rd molars way back in your mouth, and sometimes hidden (impacted) under your gums.  Thus the need to take out these teeth surgically is there for several reasons which we will get into on a later date.
